The story of ...WEET WEET

She lived like this for 8 months

(see the black tape around her chest to hold the wings together)

WEET WEET

Weet Weet at 1 year old (left) and here is her egg.

Weet Weet was born very small, on August 21st 2006.  She was very fragile and at two weeks of age she broke both her legs and then both her wings.  She was under a heat lamp and wings taped up and legs in stints for 7 months+, needing to be changed every week.  Every night I would get up, hold her to her food and water, and did this several times daily.  She had to be cleaned off every day.  At 8 months, I removed her wing tape, they seemed healed.  But her legs were still bent badly.  I would turn her legs to the correct position and rewrap again and again.  At 10 months she was all healed.

I thought every day, should I let her die, and the answer was always NO.  She was just skin and bones at times and she came very close to dying many times.  The Vets and every chicken expert I could contact all told me she would not live and if she did, she would die laying her first egg.

Since then, it has been right at a year, and Weet Weet has layed her 20th egg and she is doing fine.   That just goes to show, we are capable of much more then we think we are.

Her beak is still crooked but nothing like it was for a long time.
